CarCom electronics AG Shop & API's

As part of this project, the shops operated by CarCom electronics AG, brodit-shop.ch and the CarCom shop, were technically rebuilt from the ground up and given a modern, intuitive frontend.

About the Project

CarCom electronics AG's new digital direction is meant to be more than just two online shops for selling products. Rather, it lays the foundation for CarCom electronics AG to intelligently connect and centrally manage its systems and sales channels in the future, while keeping operating effort to a minimum.

Together with CarCom electronics AG, we chose Vendure as the shop backend. The decisive factor was the ability to build a flexible foundation that accommodates both users' individual requirements and future development. It was also clear early on that the backend would need to be extended with PIM capabilities in order to connect additional shops as well as marketplaces such as Digitec Galaxus and others.

Together with CarCom electronics AG, we completely rethought the information architecture and made it easily accessible to users through a category tree used as the site navigation.

UX & Frontend

As part of developing the Brodit and CarCom shops and their interfaces, we redesigned the entire frontend from the ground up. Unlike the previous template-based solution, the new implementation offers full design and technical flexibility, allowing us to tailor the shop specifically to the needs of CarCom electronics AG and its customers. On this basis, we developed a consistent design system that covers every area of the shop, from the product overview and filtering through to checkout.

To make the system usable across multiple brands, we built the platform so that the UX structure remains identical for the Brodit and CarCom shops, while the theming can be customized for each shop. Colors, branding elements and visual details can thus be flexibly aligned with the respective brand. This approach makes it possible to launch additional shops on the same foundation with minimal effort in the future, with each shop getting its own visual identity.

Particular focus was placed on performance. Since fast loading times have a direct impact on user experience and conversion, the interface was deliberately kept lean and every step of the user journey was critically examined. The result is a modern platform that is fast and intuitive to use.

Working with Neovo was very pleasant, straightforward and solution-oriented from the very beginning. They understood our requirements and worked with us to turn them into a solution that not only meets our current needs but also gives us a great deal of flexibility for our further digital development. We particularly value the direct communication, the pragmatic approach and the genuine partnership.

Vendure backend

For the shop backend, we use Vendure, an open-source headless e-commerce framework. A key advantage of Vendure is its high extensibility. Since the framework provides a solid foundation for core shop functionality, we were able to build CarCom electronics AG's individual requirements on top of it. These include discount logic such as voucher codes as well as customer-specific discounts with individual terms for single customers or customer groups. In addition, products that are being discontinued or sold off can be displayed with both the regular and the reduced price side by side, providing transparent clearance pricing in the shop.

For electronic payment processing, the shop was integrated with Saferpay. This enables secure payment in the shop using familiar payment methods.

Another central component is the integration with the Comatic ERP (enterprise resource planning) system. This allows products and customer data to be synchronized between the shop and the ERP. Orders from the shop are automatically transferred to Comatic, including invoice generation in the ERP, which eliminates manual data entry and minimizes administrative effort.

In addition, product data is automatically enriched during import into Vendure with information from various external APIs, such as the Brodit API, as well as other data sources such as CSV files. As a result, product information is available automatically without having to be maintained manually.

Thanks to Vendure's multi-tenancy capability, multiple shops can be operated and managed on a shared platform. This was used consistently in this project, since the two shops, brodit-shop.ch and the CarCom shop, differ only in their product catalog. This minimizes the effort for product management, maintenance and further development, and new shops can easily be added as needed.

Because product data needs to be distributed to various marketplaces such as Digitec Galaxus, Brack, MediaMarkt and TCS, Vendure was extended so that the large amount of additional product information required can be maintained directly in Vendure in a simple and clear way. Product managers are only shown the attributes required for the respective product family. Vendure thus also takes on the role of a PIM (product information management) system alongside the shop, saving additional license costs.

PostgreSQL is used as the database. This lean, low-maintenance open-source solution provides a high-performance and reliable foundation for the project's requirements. The shops run on Jelastic cloud hosting at Infomaniak, which provides a flexible and scalable infrastructure for the various environments.

The result is a shop backend that not only covers classic e-commerce requirements but, thanks to its extensibility, can also flexibly accommodate CarCom electronics AG's future needs.
