Swiss e-ID Approved: Time to Prepare for Integration

Switzerland approved the e-ID on September 28, 2025. This means the federal government will provide a state e-ID and operate the necessary trust infrastructure. For companies, now is the right moment to plan integration and prioritize concrete use cases.

In a Nutshell: How the e-ID Is Used

The e-ID is managed in a wallet app. The federal government provides the swiyu app (iOS / Android). Users obtain their e-ID through this wallet and present it to online services such as banks, webshops, or government agencies. The architecture is based on open standards like Verifiable Credentials, OpenID for Verifiable Credentials, and SD-JWT for selective disclosure. This allows sharing exactly the attributes a service requires, no more. swiyu wallet

What Companies Should Plan Concretely

1. Identify relevant use cases

Typical starting points include account opening, age verification, KYC (“Know Your Customer” due-diligence for customer identification), address validation, or secure login without forcing extra registrations.

2. Design consent and user flows

The wallet actively asks for permissions. As a provider, you can tailor the data request to your brand to improve the user experience. This reduces drop-offs and strengthens trust.

3. Account for interfaces and standards

Verification happens without calling back the issuer. Services can use standardized flows for requesting and validating data. Those who prioritize interoperability early reduce later adaptation effort. swiyu technical documentation

4. Review data protection and logging

Data minimization is key. Retention periods, deletion concepts, and transparency for users belong in every concept.

5. Test technology and operations early

With the public beta environment you can trial end-to-end flows and edge cases. This reduces risk for the later rollout.

Our Project Experience

We’ve actively tested the underlying technologies and tried them out in prototypes and integrations. In our earlier posts, we explained the trust mechanisms and operating principles of the new e-ID. Building on that, we support companies and webshops with:

  • Use-case analysis

  • Architecture and security

  • Integration of verification interfaces (verifier) and wallet flows

  • Handling selective disclosure of requested data with SD-JWT

  • Quality assurance, load testing, and monitoring

  • Operations and support after go-live

Let’s Talk About Your Concrete Benefits

Whether it’s faster onboarding, fewer fraud cases, fewer media breaks, or better checkout conversion—we’ve already gained extensive experience and guide you from the first idea through technical implementation to stable operations.
