Use of the Swiss Federal Trust Infrastructure
Neovo AG supports municipalities and companies in applying the federal trust infrastructure: from the e-ID and digital credentials through to integration into existing systems.
Digital credentials explained simply
The trust infrastructure is a state-operated system that enables digital credentials and certificates to be securely issued, stored and verified, without a central database and without any "intermediary". Every credential is cryptographically secured, forgery-proof and belongs exclusively to the person who holds it.
The trust register is operated by the federal government. Only registered bodies are permitted to issue or verify credentials, which gives the system the highest level of credibility.
The credentials are stored locally in the swiyu app on the holder's mobile phone. The data is therefore not stored on a central server, resulting in maximum data protection. The principle: data belongs to people, not to systems.
The federal government's official wallet app stores the e-ID, driving licence, employee ID and other credentials locally, encrypted and ready to present at any time.
How the infrastructure works
For Beginners
Issue credential (Issuer) - An authorised organisation, e.g. a municipality or an employer, issues a digital credential. With one click, the system generates a QR code.
Store in swiyu app - The person scans the QR code with the swiyu app. The credential is stored locally on the smartphone, secure, encrypted and accessible only to the holder.
Present credential - At the entrance, counter or online, the person opens the credential in the app and presents it.
Verify automatically (Verifier) - The verifier checks the credential in milliseconds: Is it valid? Was it issued by a trusted body? Has it potentially been tampered with? All cryptographically secured.

No possibility of forgery Cryptographic signature makes manipulation impossible, verifiable even without technical know-how.
Data sovereignty Only the holder decides who sees which data. No feedback to the issuer.
Immediate availability From issuance to verification, everything is digital, in seconds, without paper or physical card.
For Developers
OID4VCI - Credential Issuance - Credentials are issued via OpenID for Verifiable Credential Issuance (OID4VCI). The issuer provides a credential offer as a deep link or QR code.
SD-JWT VC as credential format - Credentials are issued as Selective Disclosure JWT Verifiable Credentials (SD-JWT VC). This enables data-minimising, selective disclosure of attributes.
OID4VP - Presentation Protocol - Presentation is carried out via OpenID for Verifiable Presentations. The verifier provides a presentation definition, the holder responds with a VP token.
Trust Registry & DID - Trustworthiness is verified via the federal government's public trust register (Base & Trust Registry). Issuers and verifiers register with their personal DID document.

What does the e-ID have to do with this?
The e-ID is the first and most well-known credential in the trust infrastructure, but far from the only one. It forms the foundation on which further credentials are built. Those who understand the e-ID understand the entire ecosystem.
September 2025: Popular vote passed. The Swiss electorate approved the e-ID Act, clearing the way forward.
March 2025 - today: Public Beta available now. The trust infrastructure is already available in a preliminary version. Municipalities and companies can gain experience today.
1 December 2026: Full operation of the trust infrastructure and introduction of the e-ID. Those who start now will be immediately ready when the official launch takes place.
The e-ID is one credential among many
In addition to the state e-ID, municipalities, companies and organisations can issue their own credentials: employee IDs, library subscriptions, VIP cards, certificates of origin and more.
Credentials build on one another
An employee ID can be based on the e-ID, meaning it only contains job-specific attributes and links to the state identity credential. Data is not stored twice.
Why act now?
Those who start during the beta phase gain experience, train and raise awareness among employees and are ready for the official launch.
Use cases for municipalities and companies
Every process that today requires a physical ID, a card or a confirmation can in future be mapped digitally.
Digital library subscription
Low barrier to entry, high added value: a digital subscription trains the population in using the swiyu app and builds trust for later, more sensitive credentials.
Swimming pool & sports facility subscription
Subscriptions and annual passes digital in the app, no more plastic cards, automatic validity check at entry.
Digital employee ID
Municipal employees receive their ID directly in the swiyu app. Validity verifiable by QR code. At reception, in the field or at partner organisations.
VIP & newcomer card
New residents in a municipality often receive a digital VIP card with free access to municipal facilities. Ideal for introducing the swiyu app to the population.
Certificate of origin & official ID
Official documents and credentials issued digitally. Less paper, faster processes, secure verification at the counter or online.
Volunteer credential
Digital proof of volunteer activities. Recognised, verifiable and directly in the app, e.g. for job applications or funding programmes.
Digital access authorisation
Access to buildings, events or systems via verified credential. No key, no card, just the app.
Club memberships
Club members receive their membership card directly in the swiyu app. Presentable at any time, automatically expiring and without administrative effort when joining or leaving. Ideal for sports, cultural and leisure clubs.
Digital loyalty stamp card
No more paper stamp cards that get lost or copied: a digital coffee pass in the swiyu app is forgery-proof, always at hand and can be automatically reissued after each redemption.
How Neovo AG provides support
From the first idea through to live operations: we support you as a partner, with direct contact and full transparency.
We analyse the current situation together, identify the most impactful use cases and develop a realistic implementation plan, understandable even for non-technical decision-makers.
Start small, think big: we create tangible prototypes that can be tested within the team and with the public before larger investments are made.
We set up the issuer and verifier technically, register our clients in the federal trust register and deliver a production-ready backend including admin interface.
Technology is only as good as its acceptance. We train employees and support communication with the public, clearly and without technical jargon.
System integration after the official launch
After the official launch, we support seamless integration into the existing IT landscape: ERP, CRM, administrative software, HR systems and any third-party systems via API.
Starter Package
We recommend a pragmatic approach: start small, gain experience, scale up. Our packages are tailored to the realities of companies and municipalities.
From concept to a real pilot, ready to deploy within a few weeks.

Employee training
We are closely connected with the community around the trust infrastructure and the Federal Office for Information Technology (BIT). We therefore feed experiences and feedback back into participation meetings or to the right individuals. This means we benefit from early news and direct points of contact.
Our Showcases
The following showcases are already live and can be demonstrated in real time.
